It’s that time of year again where even the most cynical of us stop to contemplate gratitude and thanksgiving. We are hardwired to notice what’s not going right in our lives in order to protect us and keep us out of harm’s way. It takes a little more focus and intention to instead consider what is going right. What works in your life? How do you feel accomplished? Where is your joy today? Where do you find happiness and ease?
It’s also that time of year again to give thanks. After answering these questions, who can you thank? How many people have taken part in what works? How did you get to where you are today? Who joined you in your journey – for however long or short a time?
As you contemplate these questions and the many answers whether general or specific, hold that gratitude in your heart for a few breaths. Breathe it in for a few minutes. Take the time to send a thank you card or give a thank you hug to those who impact your life for good. In your yoga practice this month, nurture a place for gratitude in your heart and see where it takes you.
We all have things that we would like to improve. Let us focus instead on the things that are already wonderful right here and right now.
